Pip values are calculated using approximate exchange rates and may differ slightly from live market rates. Standard Lot = 100,000 units, Mini Lot = 10,000 units, Micro Lot = 1,000 units.

What is a Pip Calculator?

A pip calculator is an essential forex trading tool that determines the monetary value of a pip (percentage in point) for any currency pair. A pip represents the smallest standard price movement in a forex quote — typically 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for JPY pairs. Knowing the exact pip value helps traders calculate potential profits, losses, and position sizes before entering a trade.

Our free pip calculator instantly computes pip values across 30+ forex currency pairs for standard lots (100,000 units), mini lots (10,000 units), and micro lots (1,000 units) — all converted to your chosen account currency.

How to Use This Pip Calculator

  1. 1

    Select Your Account Currency

Choose the currency your trading account is denominated in (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, etc.).

  2. 2

    Enter Trade Size in Lots

Enter your position size. Use the quick-select buttons for common lot sizes (0.01 micro, 0.1 mini, 1.0 standard).

  3. 3

    Set the Number of Pips

Enter how many pips you want to calculate the value for. Default is 1 pip.

  4. 4

    Review Results

The table shows pip values for all currency pairs across standard, mini, and micro lot sizes, plus your custom lot size.

How is Pip Value Calculated?

The pip value formula depends on the currency pair and your account currency:

Pip Value = Pip Size × Position Size (Units) × Exchange Rate Factor

For pairs where the quote currency is USD (e.g. EUR/USD), one pip on a standard lot equals exactly $10.00. For pairs where the quote currency is not USD, the pip value must be converted using the current exchange rate.

Example: For 1 standard lot of EUR/USD with a USD account:

  • Pip Size = 0.0001
  • Position Size = 100,000 units
  • 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10.00 per pip

For USD/JPY with a USD account, the pip value is calculated as:

  • Pip Size = 0.01
  • Position Size = 100,000 units
  • 0.01 × 100,000 = ¥1,000 per pip
  • Converted to USD: ¥1,000 ÷ 149.50 ≈ $6.69 per pip

Standard, Mini, and Micro Lots Explained

Forex trading uses standardized position sizes called lots:

  • Standard Lot (1.0) = 100,000 units of the base currency. For EUR/USD, one pip ≈ $10.00.
  • Mini Lot (0.1) = 10,000 units. One pip ≈ $1.00 for EUR/USD.
  • Micro Lot (0.01) = 1,000 units. One pip ≈ $0.10 for EUR/USD.

Smaller lot sizes allow traders with smaller accounts to manage risk effectively. Our pip calculator shows values for all three lot sizes simultaneously so you can compare at a glance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pip in forex trading?

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest standard price movement in a forex quote. For most currency pairs, it is 0.0001 (the fourth decimal place). For JPY pairs, it is 0.01 (the second decimal place). Pips are the standard unit for measuring profit, loss, and price changes in forex.

How much is 1 pip worth for a standard lot of EUR/USD?

For a standard lot (100,000 units) of EUR/USD with a USD-denominated account, 1 pip is worth exactly $10.00. This is because 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10.00.

Does the account currency affect pip value?

Yes. The pip value is first calculated in the quote currency of the pair (the second currency). If your account currency differs from the quote currency, the value is converted at the current exchange rate. For example, a EUR/GBP pip value would be in GBP, then converted to your account currency.

What is the difference between a pip and a pipette?

A pipette is one-tenth of a pip. Many brokers quote prices to 5 decimal places (3 for JPY pairs), where the last digit represents a pipette. For example, if EUR/USD moves from 1.08720 to 1.08725, that is a 0.5 pip (5 pipette) movement.

Why do JPY pairs have different pip sizes?

JPY pairs use 0.01 as the pip size because the Japanese Yen has a much lower value per unit compared to other major currencies. A movement from 149.50 to 149.51 in USD/JPY represents 1 pip.
